Today’s unplanned visit to the Triton Museum of Art turned out great. I saw David Middlebrook’s sculptures live for the first time and can say that no pictures can do his work justice. You have to be in their presence to fully appreciate them.

The exhibit will be open till December 5. Stop by if you can, there is a lot to see and enjoy.

The images below show some of David’s sculptures that are part of the exhibit at Triton. Not all of them were taken at the museum – some Triton photos didn’t have enough details in them. Still want a better image of “Apparition.”

Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society is currently having their annual show at the Rose Shenson Gallery, and today was the reception and award ceremony there.

It rained the whole day since early morning too. The Rose Shenson gallery is relatively small, the SCVWC show takes all the space there, so refreshments and seats for the award ceremony have to be outside. There were plenty of canopies there to shelter artists and guests, and food and drinks fit nicely under the eaves. Art, fellow artists, drinks, and rain – it does not get any better than that!

I hope SCVWC will post the name of winners on their web site soon, so I will only mention a couple pieces from the show that I liked the most:

They would be beautiful no matter what material was used, but that it’s almost all horseshoes adds a special charm for me. Unfortunately, the artist does not have a web site, so the name is all I can post here.

And I finally found my car almost on the opposite side of the Downtown. Apparently, writing down the name of the street does not particularly help if you can’t remember where that street is.

Pacific Art League has a photography only exhibition this month – Photography Today.

What caught my eye was all black and white photographs: Remnant by Bill Moy, Parched Earth 1 and Parched Earth 2 by Meggi Raeder, and Brothers Play Go by Hiroshi Suzuki. Couldn’t find the last photo anywhere online.

On a photography-related note, Modernbook Gallery left Palo Alto for San Francisco. When I saw their place closed and disarranged I thought they were gone for good. Apparently all is not lost, but it’s sad to see that the Palo Alto Art Walk got shorter.

Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos is having an unusual show this July. It features 5″ x 7″ watercolors created by long time friends Floy Zittin, Elaine Frenett and Jean Warren from 2005 till 2010 as a form of keeping in touch after being separated by family moves.

I never saw anything like that – a beautiful collection of small masterpieces with a deep meaning behind them.

Today was the reception at Nina Uppaluru’s show at Gallery 9. Nina has about 20 watercolor and acrylic paintings there.

“Up And About” is probably my favorite from the show. All those lush colors and intricate shapes are mesmerizing. I say “probably” because other works make it hard to choose just one.

It was nice to see how many people came to see Nina’s beautiful art and to talk to her. Attention well deserved.

That reminds me of sketching in Moscow Zoo with my friends, years and years ago. Good times, good to live close to the zoo.
