Open Space

Posted by Yelena Shabrova

Sunshine, light clouds, and blue skies – everything our weather at the moment is not. I do not mind misty and rainy one single bit, but somehow it is not what I want to draw.

Open Space - pastel pencil, 5" x 7"

pastel pencil, 5″ x 7″

The original ($140.00), greeting cards, and prints are available in my Pastel Pencil online gallery. The original went to a new good home!

I’m always impressed how you manage to capture so much in such a small size. It’s got a wonderful springlike mood.

I guess it depends on the medium. Working big with colored pencils is quite deferent than doing so with watercolor, acrylic or oil. Or clay ;-)

Ah, in the head – do you want to talk about it? ;-)

But who says you have to work big? I think each of us has the scale that fits.

But of course, let’s talk about the head – mental blocks and all that.

No, I didn’t mean that I have to work big, just that it’s not the limitation of the tools of choice :) I actually saw a colored pencil piece once that was several feet in both dimensions :)

Must have taken forever to create such a piece!

Speaking of mental blocks – I am now contemplating a paining class in acrylics or oil – totally out of my comfort zone, but I like the teacher, so that might be a good place to start.

Good memory! I did one acrylic but worked mostly with lines, so that doesn’t really count. I also combine acrylics with collage, but use fluid acrylics that have a very watercolory texture, only they dry annoyingly faster.
